Happy Navrathri !!!!

I have been keeping Golu since 2002. First Golu included just non-traditional dolls available in local market with silver items, marriage dolls etc in a small place. Next year it was a 3 step golu made of boxes with Dashavatar brought from India. As years passed we added more steps and dolls to the Golu. Every day during Navrathri ends with chanting Lalitha Sahasranama, Thamboolam and kids demonstrating their Carnatic talents.

Current year our grand Golu included 7 steps. On right side we have Chottanikara Bhagavathy with Swami Ayappa theme. Kalahasti Navagraha theme is to the front of Swami Ayappa. Towards the right side of Golu steps are Lord Murugan and Garuda Sevai. Step zero starts with Kerala art form Kathakali followed by Pongal and Mylapore Bajanai set. We have Chettiar theme with handmade dolls followed by Barbie shopping theme with dresses handmade by me. Lego theme, Winter wonderland theme, Animal park made by my 2 kids with skating ring completes my Golu 2020.

Thanks for the opportunity & motivation from sapthavarna creations team for contestants to showcase the Golu online.
Have a nice day!

Welcome To Our Navaratri Golu,
We are Malyalees but our family begun the tradition of keeping Navaratri Golu about 65 years ago. I have been keeping Golu for 15 years and started it when we used to live in Africa and expanded our collection when we moved to India.

This year's Golu consists of 4 sections.

The first section is a village with a small lake in the middle as well as a farm with animals. There is also a marketplace next to it, and if you look in the marketplace you can see the foreigners who have come to visit the village.

The second section has 3 steps; the first step is a decorated Devi idol, and the 2nd and 3rd step is my Ganapati collection which consists of 60 idols. I am an avid collector of Ganapati idols and this is my personal favourite part of the Golu.
This year I added 2 new idols using the theme of blue, one in crystal and other is ceramic with gold plating.

The third section is the traditional 9 step Golu (1-9 from top to bottom):
1) Ram, Sita, Laxman, Hanuman and Panchamukhi Hanuman.
2 & 3) The Ashtalakshmi Collection.
4) The Dasavatharam Idols.
5) The Tirupathi Brahmotsavam.
6 & 7) The Krishna Story, beginning with Krishna's birth, stealing butter, Yashoda punishing him, Krishna stealing Gopis clothes, Krishna dancing with Gopis, Kalia Mardhanam and finally Krishna carrying Govardhana Giri.
8) Kailsam
9) Kalyana set, Marapachi Bommai, and the Chettiar & Chettiar Amma.

The fourth and final section has 3 tiers; the top tier is Murugan, Valli and Devayani. The next tier is Saraswati, Durga and Lakshmi. The last tier is this year's new collection which is the Murugan Aarupadai Veedugal.

I am happy that I was able to share my Golu with everyone, hope you all enjoy and I would trully appreciate a vote for our Golu.

Stay safe.

Started keeping Golu since 2014. In addition to the usual Golu dolls, I added many items that I handcrafted during the lockdown period this year.

These items are:
1. Flowers of different shapes and forms made out of paper
2. A replica of a pookkalam (floral arrangement on the ground made for Onam in Kerala), but on a glass jar. I made the base by pasting common salt on the jar in the shape of the pookkalam and then coloured it to give flower effect.
3. A blue flower vase made out of layers of waste paper
4. A flower made out of jute yarn
5. A Ganesha picture, made out of food grains
6. A small pen holder made of ice cream sticks
7. The yellow and orange flowers in front of some of the dolls in the Golu were also handmade by me using crepe paper
8. A "flying cup", from which paper flowers are flowing out.
9. The temple in the background was made out of styrofoam.
10. The Sai Baba in the front is a Rangoli.

My Golu is based on world famous Mysuru Dasara . I have created miniature of Chamundi hills and collected miniatures of Mysore palace, Lalita Mahal palace, Krishna Rajendra circle, clock tower, Crawford hall and royal chariots depicting the famous Dasara procession. Also display of market area and village scene. Mysore university is celebrated 100th year of convocation so miniature of university is also displayed to give a good understanding of Mysore karnataka. My viewers says it's an unique experience and feel like visited Mysuru

This is my very second golu experience. This time I kept all hand sketched painting instead of golu dolls. The golu stand was made using carton boxes and books. In my golu kalasam, pillaiyar, durga ma, perumal and lakshmi, dasavatharam set, chettiyar thatha and paati were there. I had made them in small canvases each and kept on display.
