This kolam is categorized as padi kolam. Padi kolam comes under our traditional kolam. In this kolam, the interlinked square chain represents our life (vaazhkai oru vattam), the 4 rectangle curves represents the 4 main directions (thisaigal), the 5 red squares represent the 5 elements (panchaboothangal) and the 4 corner curves represent the 4 vedhas (vedhangal). This kolam is categorized as sikku kolam or suzhi kolam. This kolam is done with 23-12 interlaced dots. At the centre of this kolam, there is a bloomed lotus while at the 6 corners, there are 6 blooming lotus. The lotus indicates Lord Narayana and Lord Mahalakshmi for Margazhi Utsavam.
