This is my 9th years Golu and is themed as Madurai Meenakshi Amman presenting the kovil , ther(chariot), BTS stage, Meenakshi Amman Thiru Kalyanam along with Vilaku Poojai, Sabarimalai, Raja Alangara Murugar, Shridi Sai Baba and traditional 7-step golu.
The history of Meenakshi Temple dates back to the 1st century C.E with scholars claiming it to be as old as the city itself. It is said that Kulashekarar Pandyan, a king who ruled over the Pandyan dynasty, built the temple as per the instructions given in his dream by Lord Shiva. A few religious texts that belong to the 1st to 4th century C.E talk about the temple and describe it as the central structure of the city. Texts dating back to the early 6th century, describe the temple as a place where scholars met to discuss important topics. The temple as it stands today, however, was rebuilt throughout the 16th century as it was destroyed by the Muslim invaders.
Most materials used were recycled to create each part of the Golu.
Kovil (Temple) : The temple was handmade and built using pallets, compressed board, scrap flooring tiles, pvc and cardboard, hand crafted sannathi decorations and many more layers of detailing added to bring true divinity of the temple.

We bought the official BTS dolls to represent each member of the group and also made mini mics and Army Bombs out of polymer clay for each member to hold. We also used recycled boxes and materials for the stage along with hanging moon to bring down the singers to give dramatic appeal.
Dolls : It also includes lots of hand customized dolls to represent the culture and community (using Barbie and Ken dolls) including dress, jewellery, hair styling, nail art, mehandi, etc.
