Vanakkam!

I have been keeping Golu for the last 10 years and this is my fifth year participating in the Sapthavarna Golu competitions. This year I kept the traditional Seven steps Golu along with the Gokulam and Vrindavan theme.

Best form of worship in Kaliyugam is Bhakthi, so we chose Divine Love as this year's Golu theme. When it comes to Divine Love it reminds us of Radha Krishnan, Meera Kannan, Andal Rangamannar etc. My intention for this year's Golu is to make anyone viewing or visiting to feel the divine love, appreciate the beauty of nature and have pleasant experience and realize inner peace.

To depict this, we designed Gokulam, Vrindavan, Village setup, Yamuna River, Oodam (Boat) and Waterfalls. Everything was handmade from scratch. We showcased some of the key events of Krishna’s life story like Birth, journey from Mathura to Gokulam, growing up in Gokulam, mischievous acts of Krishna, pampering of Radha, Rasaleela, hiding Gopiyars clothes, etc.

Alongside this, we also exhibited many antique items, some of which dates back to over 100 years. Very rarest 18th century Idol Yamadharma Raja has been showcased in our Golu. I have converted brass candlesticks into Kuthuvilakku. Most of the brass items are at least 50 years old.

Very unique and beautifully decorated artwork made with two glass bottles which is more than 150 years old. I spread the golu decoration with dolls and idols throughout my home.

We also displayed the Surya Namaskar postures to showcase the ancient technique for maintaining a healthy body and mind.

Displayed various forms of Ganesha. Decorated Kuthuvilakku as Radha and Krishnan also draped Kalasam with saree as Lakshmi and Saraswathy.
