Navarathri is one of the most celebrated festivals in our family. We enjoy setting up the golu each year as we welcome the devis and devataas to our house in the form of dolls. Reflecting on why we celebrate Navarathri - Hindu religion has four main aspects
- Karyam - our daily chores
- Karanam - things we use to do our chores
- Karta - the doer of the chores guided by a supreme power
- Kaaranam - the reason why we do
We realise that God us the doer and makes us do whatever we do ( for this we need total surrender).
This year our golu is based on two themes -
Top to bottom row:
Row 1 is the first god we pray to - Vinayagar and the three devis of navarathri- Durga, Lakshmi and Saraswathi.
Row 2, 3, and 4- are the Rajarajeshwari durbar- Devi in all her resplendent forms showering blessings and protecting her devotees.
Row 5- is Lord Shiva, Lalitha Devi and the story of Kanakadhara slokam.
Row 6 - is the god or protection - Vishnu - Rama,Seetha, Lakshmanan and Hanuman, God of knowledg- Hayagreevar, Ramar Guhan aalinganam, Rama, Seetha and Lakshmanan in the boat, Chakrathazwar and Narasimhar and Aadhyanthaprabhu.
Row 7 - Dasavatharam
Row 8 - is Saptarishis, Mahaperiyava and Shirdi Baba, Krishna and the Gopis
Row 9 - All the creatures and the humans in the form of Chettiar and Chettichi
We have Vishwaroopam on the side where we learn the importance of understanding that we are only the Kartas - doing the work god wants us to do..karnam and

Bottom to top:
We begin our janma as creatures with one sense, two senses and so on till we reach the human form and then with our prayers and introspection we gain control over our sense and that is the Saptarishi, then the Mahan stage and then we look at god in his avatars. From there we move to our preserver - Vishnu and as we near our end we move to the domain of Shiva. From there on we move to Parashakthi who protects us.
