Namaskaram! My name is Usha Sriram ,I have been celebrating Navarthiri and keeping golu from the year I got married i.e 2007. We moved to New Jersey 5 years ago and this is my 5th Golu in the United States. Both my eight year old daughter and husband enjoy this festival and help me set this up. The whole base (padi) of the golu is made from cardboard boxes and chart paper. As our idea is to reuse simple household materials.
This year's golu is the Lotus Feet of Sriman Narayana ,a dedication to our guru paramparai and celebrate the Lion among poets, Swami Nigamantha Maha Desikan. Like all Sri Vaishnava Guru paramparas, as we are Andavan Ashramam’s disciples our guru paramparai succession begins with the Supreme Lord and His Divine consort – Sriman Narayana and Sri Mahalakshmi. Hence the star of Navarathiri our Goddess Mahalakshmi is seated on a lotus on the top. We also wanted to celebrate our annadata our farmer friends both back home in India and the US.
