We have been keeping Golu for more than 40 years now. It started with our previous generation when it used to be a great festive atmosphere. My Mother in law used to invite the complete neighbourhood around. We are still continuing the same trend and making it one of the most expected event in our society. Our Golu always had the mix of religious (Gods/Goddesses) and also depict the common man living. This time we included some themes in our Golu to add more flavours. We had 3 parts to our Golu this time (you can see the pictures)

First part is the traditional Golu of 7 steps, which includes both religious and common dolls. The first and last step had our old generation dolls which is more than 35 years old. some note worthy mentions are, Shiva, Parvati, Madurai Meenakshi, Lakshmi and Saraswati dolls. In the last step, we have our favorite Marriage set which includes concert and food serving as well. We also add cricket set in the same step. The step above depicts the common man living like family seeing TV, Tribal set and snake man set
Last year we added Lord Muruga's birth set which depicts the 6 forms of Lord Karthikeya together with Karthigai pendir.

The second part was the temple arrangement which we made by hand. We try to depict our traditional temple with gopurams. The main sannathi was showing the Diya (Vilkakku) pooja for Goddesses. You can see the 6 married women performing the Pooja. On the Gopuram, we have kept Ashta Lakshmi and other Gods like Vinayagar, Murugar. The surroundings included some space for domestic animals. To make the temple, we used our daily items like carrom board, chess coins, cardboards etc..

The third part is the Krishna Leela theme depicted in the chariot . We wanted to teach the stories Lord Krishna and his childhood to everyone around. Krishna Leela stories starts from his birth, butter pranks, teasing the ladies, killing Putana, Kamsa vatha, Kaalinga Narthana, taming Bakasura and many more. Finally we also added Krishna driving Arjuna during the Mahabharata days. We also have Gopika's dancing around him

We are happy to tell and share our mythology stories to younger ones and adults around us. It gives us a very satisfying feeling
Hope you all like it
