For the past 14 years, our home has been a haven of cultural celebration during Golu, a tradition that has grown more vibrant with each passing year. Inspired by my daughter’s childhood wish to honor our heritage, our Golu brings together generations, including my mother, cousins, and myself, as we create an evolving tableau of colorful dolls and spiritual themes. It is a journey that deepens our connection to our roots, forging memories that resonate with every member of our family.
This year’s Golu is particularly enchanting, showcasing themes such as the Jumbo Savari of Mysore Dasara, Krishna Leela, and a stunning handmade temple structure of Ayodhya alongside the Tirupathi temple, which together add elegance and spiritual depth to our display. We have also included dolls of Andal sourced from different corners of India, enriching our Golu with diversity. The Navarasa dolls add grace and rhythm, while Mundakanni Amman introduces us to the swayambu devi of Mylapore. The grandeur of the Brahmostavam of Tirupathi further elevates this year’s festivities.
This tradition has become an inclusive community event, as we’ve collected dolls and toy cars from our neighbors, inviting children to share in this journey of giving and celebration. Through these experiences, I’m learning more about our mythology and exploring the places that inspire these stories, making each Navratri a meaningful exploration of culture and spirituality.
Wishing everyone a joyful and blessed Navratri!
