Welcome to see our 2023 Navaratri Golu where we take a trip to Puri, Orissa to see Lord Jagannath, his temple and the Rath Yatra.

Each piece of Puri theme is handcrafted using recycled materials.

1. Jagannath, Balabadra & Subhadra - made with cardboard and coated with plaster of paris which was later sanded down and hand painted by me. Crown is made with glitter paper and gold border. The arms are made with tissue rolls painted yellow. They gods masks are standing on old yogurt containers to which dress is added.

2. The Rathams are made with styrofoam boards and icecream sticks as pillars and bottle caps for wheels. The top canopy of the ratham is made with poster board and the parrots and detailing are hand painted by me to match the actual color schemes from the Rath Yatra. The ropes for the Yatra are made from handles of brown paper bags.

3. The Puri temple is also handmade using old cardboard boxes and styrofoam topper cut to dimensions and stacked one each other. The tallest gopuram has corrugated paper on the outside to get the effect of the Kalinga architecture. The whole temple was hand painted to match the actual aesthetics. The dwajasthambam is hand made using the base of a tissue roll and bottle caps and painted to match the scheme.

4. Several small scenes around the temple are also handmade like the hundi, chappal stand, flower garlands, fresh flowers, coconuts, betel leaves, bananas, tea stall, butter biscuits, picture frame stalls etc.

5. Rangoli is also free handed to match the Puri Jagannath theme using rice flower powder/paste.

6. The backdrop is hand sketched on foam boards and painted using water color to tie in the theme.
