Hari om
I have been keeping golu since 2010. This year our golu is a very traditional golu. The main attraction is the swing with Krishna and a small wooden cradle with ‘Balagopal’ and then the idols of Radha Krishna depicting the various phases of Krishna’s life. On the other side is the ‘ amman ther’ or chariot drawn by Gajendra the elephant. This time I have welcomed the Divine Durga devi, Lakshmi devi, and Saraswati devi on kalasam along with the main Divine amman that I do archana daily. The first 7 steps includes all forms of God that we worship. It start with Vignahartha Shri Ganesha, followed by Durga, Lakshmi, and Saraswati. The next step is adorned with the resplendent Perumal with his consort Andal and their vahanam Garudan. Following this step is the centrally placed Ganesha flanked by his brother Karthikeya and his consorts and Rama, Lakshmana, Sita and Hanuman. Then the Dasavatharam depicting evolution of life. Ashtalakshmi and the three divine forms of devi adorn the next two steps. Of course the Music trimurthis rendering praises of the divine mother with all the instruments is a must in any golu. This is followed by the chettiar and chettichi depicting prosperity and abundance displaying all agricultural produce. Centrally placed is the barrel full of rice with husk and pulses. All other life forms including animals on land and water, and plants form the integral part of the golu. My daughter dedicates a corner for the brave soldiers guarding our borders with the Indian flag swaying with all glory. She always insists our Golu includes ‘Jai jawan, Jai kisan’. This year’s golu is an expression of gratitude for all the immense heartfelt blessings that we have received from the Divine mother who has nurtured us, showered us with abundance and protected us through such tough times. It is a symbol of complete ‘samarpanam’ to that ‘shakti’ which creates, sustains, protects, nourishes and showers all of us with whatever we need in abundance 🙏
