It has been a tradition for us to keep Kolu(Golu) since our great-grandmother times. We usually keep it for 9 days. On the 10th day, we wrap it and keep it back in the boxes and take it out again for next year's Navaratri. Our Kolu is usually of 9 steps.
After setting up the kolu everyday(9 days) on the mornings and evenings we do a puja to the kalasam(Varalakshmi amman). This is the typical navaratri traditional puja that we do every year.
Our ususal themes/sets are:-
1. Daasavataaram
2. Ashtalakshmi
3. Lalithaambigai
4. Thiruvanamalai
5. Aandal jananam
6. Bharathanatyam
7. Krishna-Radha on swan boat
8. Pillayar playing on slide
9. Mupperum Deviyar
10. Vannavanathi
11. Alli Arjunan
12. Ranganathar
13. Karthigai Pengal
14. Pallanguzhi
15. Ghatotkachan
16. Kumbhakarna
17. Marriage cermony
18. Teacher's Classroom
19. Snake Charmer
20. Pillayar teaching to mice
New Additions:-
1. Ayodha Ram Lalla
2. Ulagalantha Perumal
3. Guruvayurappan
4. Aandal holding perumal statue
5. Marapachi bommai(Perumal Version)
On top of that we have many other small and big dolls. Out of those the oldest is the two tall policeman dolls which are of 50+ years old easily.
