Tell us about your Golu

Navarathri is a festival celebrated in honor of the Goddessess namely, Durga, Lakshmi and Saraswathi for nine days and the final day, termed as Vijayadashami is celebrated to symbolize the triumph of good over evil. Since my childhood,I got accustomed to the South Indian tradition of displaying dolls for Navarathri, as golu and its worth mentioning that my family is maintaining this tradition for over three generations. I started keeping golu since 2014 after I got married. The theme of our Golu this year is predominantly depicting figurines and stories from Hindu mythology. We have 5 steps in our golu. Some of the dolls exhibited in this display are at least 90-100 years old which I inherited from my mother as family legacy.
First Step Theme: Aarupadai Veedu Set
We have displayed Sri Krishna, an avatar of Sri MahaVishnu and the six abodes of Lord Muruga
Second Step Theme: Krishnaleela Set
We have displayed the Krishna leela set right from the time of birth to Raasleela. We also have the Kalinga narthana set as well as the set that depicts Lord Krishna giving deliverance to the two demi-gods Nalakuvara and Manigriva from their sins committed in their previous birth.
Third Step Theme: Ashtalakshmi Set
In the third step, we have the Kalasam, followed by Ashtalakshmi set and other deities.
Fourth Step Theme: Dasavataram
In the fourth step, we have displayed the Dashavatharam set as well as the idols of the vaishnavite saint Ramanujar, Buddha, Annapurani and Mahishasura Mardini. We also have the Gajendra Moksha set as well as the famous Nayanmaar, KanappaNayanar whose story shows the boundless love and devotion to the Lord. We have the wooden dolls (Marapacchi bommai) in the center.
Fifth Step Theme: Kutcheri Set
In the last row, we have the Chettiar couple displaying their store. Music reigns during Navarathri and is depicted through the Kutcheri set. At the ground level,we have the cricket set. India celebrates cricket and we want to celebrate Cricket too.
Thanks and appreciation to Saptavarna creations for its effort to connect the tradition followers across the globe and for providing us the opportunity to display our golu.
