Tell us about your Golu
Welcome To Our Navaratri Golu,
We are Malyalees but our family begun the tradition of keeping Navaratri Golu about 65 years ago. I have been keeping Golu for 15 years and started it when we used to live in Africa and expanded our collection when we moved to India.
This year's Golu consists of 4 sections.
The first section is a village with a small lake in the middle as well as a farm with animals. There is also a marketplace next to it, and if you look in the marketplace you can see the foreigners who have come to visit the village.
The second section has 3 steps; the first step is a decorated Devi idol, and the 2nd and 3rd step is my Ganapati collection which consists of 60 idols. I am an avid collector of Ganapati idols and this is my personal favourite part of the Golu.
This year I added 2 new idols using the theme of blue, one in crystal and other is ceramic with gold plating.
The third section is the traditional 9 step Golu (1-9 from top to bottom):
1) Ram, Sita, Laxman, Hanuman and Panchamukhi Hanuman.
2 & 3) The Ashtalakshmi Collection.
4) The Dasavatharam Idols.
5) The Tirupathi Brahmotsavam.
6 & 7) The Krishna Story, beginning with Krishna's birth, stealing butter, Yashoda punishing him, Krishna stealing Gopis clothes, Krishna dancing with Gopis, Kalia Mardhanam and finally Krishna carrying Govardhana Giri.
9) Kalyana set, Marapachi Bommai, and the Chettiar & Chettiar Amma.
The fourth and final section has 3 tiers; the top tier is Murugan, Valli and Devayani. The next tier is Saraswati, Durga and Lakshmi. The last tier is this year's new collection which is the Murugan Aarupadai Veedugal.
I am happy that I was able to share my Golu with everyone, hope you all enjoy and I would trully appreciate a vote for our Golu.
